Ice climbing and mountaineering are activities that involve risk. Here at Guru Climbing School we recognize that people want to learn how to identify and manage the risks associated with climbing during the winter and spring seasons. We stress safety awareness and promote personal responsibility. Our programs aim to provide you with the knowledge to move efficiently over varied terrain, evaluate future partners and select appropriate climbs. Learn skills that will enhance your climbing experiences.

We offer wariet types of Ice Climbing Courses. Basic of these are Introductory Ice Climbing Course and Advanced Ice Climbing Course.

Introductory Ice Climbing Course

This one-day course is a introduction to waterfall ice climbing and general mountaineering. It is best suited for novice winter climbers. The first half of the day will be spent learning about the equipment, crampons, ice axes, anchors and belays. The second half of the day will be spent climbing to gain a practical appreciation for efficient movement over moderately angled ice terrain. Guru Climbing School provides all technical gear. Course participants will need to provide a day backpack and appropriate clothing.

We will focus on:

  • learning about the equipment - crampons, ice exes, ice scrues, belay device
  • TOP rope and leading ascents
  • learn to establish a resting position
  • placement and removal of ice protection
  • proper use of ice axe leashes
  • incorporating rock climbing movements into your ice climbing awareness

Location of tehese courses are generally in Czech Republic, but if You prefer multiday courses it is posible to have Introductory Course in forein countrie where are better ice climbing conditions.

 

Advanced Ice Climbing Course

This is an advanced level course for experienced climbers who feel ready for the "sharp end". Leading and multi pitch ice climbing is very rewarding but can also be dangerous and scary if you are not prepared technically, physically and mentally. This course is progressive, while we recommend 2 or 3 days.

We will focus on:

  • advanced anchor & belay systems
  • racking of gear and rope management with a double rope system
  • mastering leading skills
  • routefinding while on a multi-pitch climb
  • setting up your own descent
  • multi-pitch climbing

Prices are determined by the ratio of climbers to guides. Course cost includes rental of all technical gear required for safe and instructional participation. In the winter we provide boots, crampons, ice axe(s), harness, helmet, ropes, and snow & ice protection.
